TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Necessary travelling documents include a passport or a valid personal identity document. As of June 15, 2004, citizens of countries of the European Union may enter Montenegro with only identity card and stay up to 30 days. At the time of entry in Montenegro is issued a tourist pass that must be showed to the border police at the time of departure. For those who go in Montenegro with only identity card, is not allowed to cross the administrative border with Serbia and Kosovo and, in the case of air travel, a stop in Belgrade. If you pass through Serbia and/or Kosovo to arrive in Montenegro, you need a valid passport.

The nationals of Andorra, Australia, Israel, the Republic of Island, Canada, the Republic of Korea, Lichtenstein, the Principality of Monaco, the Kingdom of Norway, New Zealand, the Republic of San Marino, the Republic of Singapore, the United States of America, the Confederation of Switzerland and the representatives of Vatican may enter and stay within the territory of Montenegro up to 90 days and may be in transit over the territory of Montenegro on the basis of a valid travel document.

FOREIGN CURRENCY REGULATIONS

Foreign citizens may bring into the country unlimited quantity of foreign currencies which have to be reported on the occasion of entering the country, in order to be able to take them out. Montenegrin citizens may take out of the country foreign currencies up to the amount of € 1,000.

Crime

Montenegro is a safe destination for travellers, although it is wise to take sensible precautions against street crime in the towns and cities, as you would in any other European country.
